As fertilizer, prices continue to skyrocket due to the war in Ukraine so do the cost of groceries here in the US and around the world. If you live in an apartment, gardening might not be an option for you. However, you do have other options. One of my favorite things to grow on my window seal is sprouts. With very little effort, I can always have something homegrown on my table at every meal, even in wintertime. The process only requires sprout seeds, a glass jar, water, and a tiny bit of attention. I often use sprouts in lieu of having salad on my table. Sprouts pair well with so many dishes and brings freshness to any meal. Ready in only a few days, I will often start a new jar each day so that I have a constant rotation of sprouts available.
How Kelli Grows Sprouts:
- Soak 2 tablespoons of sprout seeds in a class jar overnight.
- In the morning, pour the water out using any type of screen, towel or cheese cloth over the top of your jar.
- Set the jar of sprouts on your window seal up side down.
- Rinse the sprouts with water each day for 3-5 days until your sprouts are ready.
- Store in fridge with closed top and eat within 5 days.
